Mason's letter -- March 1, 2010

Hey family,
This week was a pretty good week for us. We had the multi-zone conference on Thursday and Elder Martino of the Seventy came and spoke to us. It was really good and I learned a lot of stuff that I need to do better, but yeah I got your package and Blair's package too, and a bunch of letters. One was from Grandma, so that was a good day--a little long, but good.
Then on Sunday we had this conference thing. I guess it was for all of Central America, but it was great. There was a ton of people in the stake center, there was too many people for the chapel and gym so they had to put people in all the rooms with little TVs. It's cool to see all the members here and how fast the Gospel has spread around the world. They just talked a lot about being faithful in the Church and paying your tithing always. The talks were really good and exactly what this country needed to hear. But Pres. Monson didn’t end up talking, just Pres. Eyring, Elder Christofferson (who speaks perfect Spanish), some lady, and Elder Costa of the Seventy.
After that we went to the Martinez family´s house to eat lunch. Bro. Martinez really liked the conference, he even went to the priesthood session and stuff. So he cooked us some really good food, some of the best food I've eaten here. Probably because it wasn’t just rice and beans. They still haven’t accepted a baptismal date for this weekend. I think we will try to get them baptized the 20th, because the littlest girl turns 8 that day, and she wants to get baptized. So that’s my vision, the entire family getting baptized that day. So ill pray a lot for that to happen.
But we do have one baptism this weekend with a 17 year old kid named Bryon. He's really chill and the first time we taught him he wanted to come out and work with us after. So he went to an appointment with us because we didn’t just want to say no. Well the lady we taught was crazy and said some weird things, so during the lesson Bryon turned to me and said in his broken English ¨shes crazy man¨. Haha funny kid and he will actually be a really good missionary one day.
We also have another teenage girl that wants to get baptized. She ran up to us a couple of weeks ago and said she had read the Book of Mormon we left her and she wants to learn more. So we will see with her, she just really needs to come to church.
Also, we should baptize and marry Pedro and Ingris this next week. I guess the reason why Ingris hasn’t come back from Tegucigalpa is because she couldn’t get her father's signature for marriage. It has been a long process and a lot of work, but they are awesome people and will be great members. So I'm excited for them and all the blessings they are receiving from the Gospel.
Jacky, our convert that is super tight, has also really seen the blessing of the gospel in her life. She just always is telling us of amazing spiritual experiences she is having as a new member of the church. We bought her a Preach my Gospel book this week because she wants to go on a mission. She told us this week of the story of how she became a member.
So I guess when we first taught her she was really interested and everything, but there were a lot of distractions that first lesson so we challenged her to pray and left, not really thinking much about it. She prayed that night and received a spiritual witness through the Holy Ghost that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. So I guess about a week went by and we still hadn’t passed by her house. So an appointment fell through one day and we didn’t have a back up plan, so I just said to my comp that we needed to just go by and see if she had prayed. So we ended up doing that and she said she had and received an answer and wanted to get baptized.
Earlier that day Jacky was really upset that we hadn’t come by yet so she decided to pray and ask Heavenly Father to send us by. Later that day we showed up, and now she has all these amazing blessings. She was truly ready and it taught me to follow the Spirit more and what I feel rather than go by my logic, because logic said that she didn’t listen and she wouldn’t pray. But the spirit kept telling us to go by.
Well that’s about all for this week, we taught a ton of lessons this week even with the multi-zone and special conferences. It was the most lessons yet this change, so I'm happy with our diligence.

Peace and love

Elder Mason Cardon
