Mason's letter -- January 18, 2007

Hola Familia,

Sorry that this email is a bit late but we had to do a ton of things and we got carried away playing soccer on the beach. I actually got pretty sun burned. It has rained rained rained this week and this is the first nice day for awhile. But tomorrow we will have more rain I think. So we went out and bought some legit rubber rain boots that come up to your knee. Now we just truck it through the streets and I'm really glad we have them because there has been so much rain that in some places there is water up to your waist. We got a ride from a member once this week and we drove through a flooded street and I thought we were going to start floating because the water was halfway up the door on the outside haha it was like driving underwater.

This week we got a ton of references from members. We basically threw out all the old investigators from the era of Gonzalez and now we have new ones that are progressing. We have lots of people to teach right now, so many that we have to put appointments today on pday. So we gotta work today, and we don't get much rest this week. But I dont care, I just want to see these people get baptized.

We found an awesome family this week. They really liked our first visit and we taught them super well and I felt the Spirit really strong with them. So we went back yesterday to them and it was raining really hard. So we got there and they were freaking out with happiness that we would come in the rain. They thought we wouldn't come (because here when it rains, it's an excuse to stay home and sleep). So they had a ton of questions for us and they love to learn. we just have to work with them, they have some doubts but I'm really grateful for them.

I really hope I stay here another change to see all these people in the end, we will have quite a few baptisms in February. On Saturday we had a baptism of Melisa. She is a 14 year old girl that we have been struggling with. She's got a huge attitude and her mom is really against the church. We almost dropped her a few times but we finally got her in the water. Then she bore her testimony and was crying and it was really great. Her mom was crying too and told her that she would support her in the church and everything. Her mom even made treats for her baptism. We really had to sweet talk the mom and become good friends with her to get her permission. So this last week we bought some king crab and had her make us a king crab soup, because she loves to cook. So I ate that this week. It was actually pretty good.

So that was a good thing this week. Also I had to baptize a kid for the sisters this week too. They accidentally over filled the font so it was overflowing with water. The water came up to my chest almost. Basically he just had to duck in the water to submerge him.

We have had alot of fun this week and we worked super hard. Everyday felt like it went too fast to do everything and teach everyone we wanted to teach. so my week has flown by. I get frustrated with the time and just wish we had more hours in the day to teach more people.

This week my comp had to do interviews in the sisters' area. So we were walking down the street and there were these little kids playing tug-o-war and they were trying to beat a HUGE GIGANTIC Honduran woman. So I jumped on the rope and tryed to help them, thinking I was really strong. Well as the story turns out I got worked over. This lady was huge and just walked backwards and whooped me. My comp was just yelling at me the whole time cheering me on but I couldn't do it. So I felt really lame, but it was a really funny experience that we laughed about for awhile.

Well that's all for this week cause I don't have much time to write cause we got to go to work. We have an appointment in like 5 minutes. So I'll talk to you next week.

I love you all and am so grateful for your support.

Love, Elder Mason Cardon
