Mason's letter -- April 12, 2010

Hola familia,

This week was super hot once again, but it was a pretty good week. That's cool to hear that Brock and Ashley are moving in for the summer. I'm jealous that you all get to be with Cal for that long. but I hope everything is going well in preparation for that, but I'm sure it is. You guys are always good, I feel blessed to have a family like you. so many other missionaries have family problems and are always worrying about home. But I never have problems because I know you're all good.

So this week we thought we were going to get Pedro and Ingris married and baptized... but once agian we ran into problems and now we are almost back to square one with the whole thing. The lawyer guy from our ward called us and said he would have it on Thursday, so we prepared everything for the weekend. But then Thursday night he called and said that he gave the papers to another lawyer to sign and this punk lawyer signed it and then locked it up. He now says that the mom has to come here to Ceiba to sign it personally becuase he doesn't believe us that she gives us permission.

So there are 500 limps worth of papers that we can't take out until she comes... which will be never because she's too sick to come here. So we called a lawyer in San Pedro that usually does weddings for missionaries. She is going to do all the paper work herself and come here personally to marry them, but we have to buy all the papers again. Luckily the stake president heard of our situation and he is willing to pay for all the papers. So that's good, but we have a lot more work to do if we want them to get married and baptized before the end of the month. It's really frustrating and crazy that all this has happened to them.

All the members were saying that obviously God doesn't want them to get married and baptized or something. So we were kinda thinking that that could be the case and the cause for all this. So I said a prayer and asked for guidance, and opened up my scriptures to Alma 5 verse 22, which says that the lord extends his arms to everyone to repent and come to him. he obviously wants them to repent of the sin and be married and baptized, there are just trials in our way. So we will do it this month.

I got to work a whole day with Elder Jackson, my MTC companion on Tuesday. he was up for the multi zone conference because he is on the island of Utila which is in my zone. So I went on divisions with him to the sisters areas to help them. they are struggling right now with the work and are just teaching little kids right now. So we are trying to help them to speak to adults and men, they are scared to do it. So me and Jackson went there and we contacted houses for 6 whole hours looking for families in their areas. It was actually really fun just knocking on doors all day, It was really tiring but fun.

The first sisters' area we went to, we didn't find anything. Just a few people who tried to fight with us hard core and some drunk dudes. But in the other area we found a lot of good people who wanted to listen. We ended up getting into a house in a really rich area and we taught a doctor and his family. They were really interested and we taught the whole first lesson and they really want to read the Book of Mormon and stuff. It was really cool to see our progress as missionaries since the MTC, Amd that now we can get around fine by ourselves because we know enough Spanish.

I hope I get to be comps with Jackson again, He is a really hard worker. So i had fun that day.

Oh, I also got a new mattress this week finally. I've been sleeping on a mattress with a huge indent in the middle for a couple months now. The springs broke in the middle so a few had been poking my back, and the my butt would sink down way low, So I would always have to sleep way over to the side. It was bad, I think like a 40 year old mattress with 30 year old pee stains on it... not from me. But now I got a brand new one and I've been sleeping great this week.

This week we are going to have interviews with the president, so that will be good.

We have a few new cool investigators. One guy and his girlfriend came to church yesterday and apparently they went to conference too, but we didn't see them there. We had just saw him one day before conference and we gave him an invitation and left. He ended up going and liked it so he came to church the next week. So that was cool. It just goes to show that you have to talk to and invite everyone, you never know who's life it will change.

But that's all I got for this week. I love you all and enjoyed all the emails. Talk to you all next week.

Love Elder Mason Cardon
